PLICS Continued Implementation (Acute) for collection year 2020

Closed 14 Feb 2020

Opened 30 Jan 2020

Overview

NHS Digital's PLICS data collections support the NHS Improvement Costing Transformation programme.

Monitor (known as NHS Improvement) made a mandatory request to NHS Digital under sections 255 and 256 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (the Act), to collect and analyse PLICS data from Acute providers.

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, we must consult:

- Representatives of persons from whom any information will be collected

- Representatives of other persons who it considers are likely to use the information to which the Mandatory Request relates

We originally consulted on the Mandatory Request in 2018 and we also consulted on changes introduced in 2019.   We are now issuing this new consultation as the dataset due for collection in 2020 is planned to be revised.   We want and welcome your views in order to improve the collection.

Why We Are Consulting

The dataset due for collection in 2020 is planned to be revised.

This includes two new extracts for:

  • Specialist Ward Care - A new extract requirement to collect adult critical care at a patient level for 2020.
  • Supplementary Information – A new extract requirement to collect high cost drugs, high cost devices and diagnostic imaging at a patient level for 2020.

In addition new fields have been added, along with updates to existing data items, the removal of some fields and updates to field descriptions.  The updated 'Annex A' (see link below to the document '2020 Annex A and B for Acute PLICS Mandatory Request - clean unsigned' ) provides the details of data items planned to be collected in 2020.

This consultation is aimed primarily at Acute Trusts due to provide the revised PLICS dataset from summer 2020.

This consultation may also be of interest to other stakeholders including potential users of the data.

Users are invited to complete the below survey in the context of the above changes.
