NHS digital, data and technology standards - draft framework

Closes 20 Mar 2019

Opened 13 Feb 2019

Overview

In October 2018, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, published a policy paper entitled The future of healthcare: our vision for digital, data and technology in health and careThis paper announced that "our ambition should be for the use of the best technology available for the NHS and social care sector". The vision is underpinned by a commitment to the development and use of standards that allow the full potential of modern technology to be put in the service of health and care.

Alongside the vision, a draft framework for NHS digital, data and technology standards was published and it was announced that a set of specifications covering each area of this framework would be developed over the coming weeks and months. Drafts of these documents are now ready and have been published on the NHS Digital website and our public collaboration site.

We are now consulting on the standards that are included in these specifications to identify those that are critical to the digital future of health and care and we would like feedback from both system suppliers and health and care organisations.
